You Look Like Me Assists Destyne Baker In Collecting Items for Yellow House
When Destyne Baker had an idea to serve, YLM didn’t hesitate we rallied behind her.
As a member of You Look Like Me and a student at Jackson State University, Destyne
saw a need in the community and chose to respond with compassion. She envisioned a
hygiene and food drive that would directly support individuals at the Yellow House
Shelter in Jackson, Mississippi and YLM helped turn that vision into impact.
From October 20th–24th, 2025, YLM mobilized support, collecting essential hygiene
products and food items to help meet everyday needs that often go unseen but deeply
felt.
What started as one member’s desire to make a difference became a collective act of
care.
Through the generosity of the community and the commitment of YLM, over 200 items
were gathered and donated to the Yellow House Shelter each item representing dignity,
support, and the reminder that someone cares.
This effort also reflected the heart of YLM’s POWER initiative a space dedicated to
nurturing and uplifting young women through leadership, service, and sisterhood.
Through Destyne’s leadership and the collective support behind her, this drive became
more than a donation effort it became a living example of women empowering one
another to create meaningful change.
Because at its core, YLM isn’t just about community service it’s about standing beside
one another and making sure that when someone steps up to help, they’re never doing
it alone.
In moments like these, impact isn’t just measured in numbers it’s felt in the lives touched
and the hope restored. And this time, that hope came in the form of boxes filled with essentials and hearts
committed to service.
