You Look Like Me Volunteers at Children's Museum for MS Science Fest
On September 20, 2025, YLM — You Look Like Me — stepped into the Mississippi
Children’s Museum with more than just helping hands, they showed up with heart.
During Mississippi Science Fest, the museum buzzed with energy as over 300 children
poured through its doors, each filled with curiosity, excitement, and a desire to explore
the world around them. Behind the laughter, the experiments, and the discovery was a
group of young leaders committed to something bigger than just volunteering.
YLM members didn’t just supervise activities they connected.
They knelt beside children during hands-on experiments, turned moments of chaos into
safe and joyful play, and transformed simple interactions into encouragement. Whether
it was guiding a child through a science activity, helping clean up after a burst of
creativity, or ensuring every space remained safe and welcoming, YLM showed what it
truly means to serve with intention.
More importantly, they became reflections.
For many of the children in attendance, seeing young people who looked like them
actively leading, supporting, and creating joy wasn’t just helpful, it was powerful. It was
representation in action. It was the living embodiment of the message behind You Look
Like Me.
Because sometimes impact isn’t measured by what you teach, but by how you show up.
And on that day, YLM showed up in a way that made science feel accessible, fun feel
safe, and belonging feel real.
