The Zedrick Maurice Warner Jr Scholarship
The Zedrick Maurice Warner Jr. Foundation and YLM are proud to collaborate on a scholarship created to support and empower the next generation of leaders. ZJ was passionate about engineering, innovation, technology, and making a difference in the lives of others, and this scholarship reflects the values he carried throughout his life. Through this partnership, we hope to continue his legacy by providing opportunities for students to pursue their education, overcome obstacles, and reach their full potential. Congratulations to our 2025 Scholarship Winners
In 2025, You Look Like Me (YLM) awarded three scholarships to deserving students who demonstrated academic achievement, purpose, and a commitment to making a difference.
The first was the Welcome to College Scholarship, open to any freshman at Jackson State University. Applicants shared who they were, their goals, and how they hoped to impact their communities. Jainaiya Newman was selected for standing out as a freshman with a clear sense of purpose, strong aspirations, and a genuine desire to use her college experience to create positive change.
The second was the Angela Johnson Memorial Scholarship, established in honor of Avaughn Johnson’s late mother, who graduated from Jackson State University in 1997 with a B.S. in Social Work. Open to JSU social work majors with at least a 3.0 GPA, the scholarship recognized students committed to serving their communities. Martecia Stokes, a dedicated mother who continues pursuing her degree while working hard for her children, was selected for her perseverance and determination to create a better future and be an example for her family.
The final scholarship was the First Generation Scholarship, created for first-generation college students in the Jackson Metro Area. Applicants were required to have a 3.0 GPA, attend an institution in Hinds County, and submit a video sharing their goals, aspirations, and vision for creating their own legacy. Amber Smith of Mississippi College, a Jackson native, was selected for her determination to pave her own path and build a future defined by her own success and aspirations.
